“I see the sculpture as an abstract and organic memorial. It does not list particular dates or formally document specific individuals. Instead it brings together a community of 366 people, recorded only by their hand-signed first name. This community of names is made up of three communities; the recipients of a transplant, the donors or relatives of donors, and NHS staff who facilitate transplants. The placement of the names, and their connection is random, the 366 names represents a transplant ‘story’ for everyday of the year.

Hand-writing like fingerprints symbolise our individuality and uniqueness, they also refer to the traditions of contracts, agreements and commitments that we create with other people.”
